How to Play

Play along LIVE with the US Open 2008. This multiplayer game lets you compete with others by answering questions and making predictions about the action on TV for points. You’ll also be able to answer real time polls and chat with other golf fans watching the US Open.

As the broadcast unfolds, you make predictions about how players will shoot for that round, a specific hole or shot. How well do you know the course and each golfer? Will Tiger Woods save Par after hitting his second shot in the bunker? You make the call and then watch as the action plays out. Use the real-time leaderboards to see how you fare against friends and other golf fans from around the nation.
To get in the game:

1. On Thursday & Friday, watch the US Open from www.USOpen.com. On Saturday & Sunday, turn on your TV and tune into the US Open on NBC
2. Next, if you haven’t already done so, launch the game by clicking the “Play Now” button.
3. Choose the event you are watching from the schedule and you’re in!
It's best to be there at the beginning of the game so that you don't miss any point scoring opportunities, but you can join the competition at any point during the broadcast.

Leaderboards

There are two leaderboards that update in real time as you are competing - your Group leaderboard and the Global leaderboard. Your Group leaderboard shows how you are doing in your group - whether it is a Public Group of players or a Private Group you have set up with your friends. The Global leaderboard shows the top players of all the players currently playing.

In the game score header your opponent's score is defaulted to show your group leader's score. If you are the leader in your group, then the 2nd place player's score will be displayed. You may change the view of the opponent to target anyone in your leaderboard by simply highlighting an opponent and then selecting the 'Target' button. You may change your 'Target' as often as you wish.

When you select to target another player, they will see an eyeball icon next to your name on the leaderboard. If someone has selected you as their opponent, an eyeball icon will appear next to their name in your leaderboard.

Community Features

AirPlay includes some great community features including a Friends List, Private Groups, and Chat. Here's how to use these features:

• Friends List - Add friends from your Group leaderboard or by searching for them by their AirPlay Member name.
• Join Friends - You can find and join friends who are currently playing by either a) selecting an event that shows a friends icon on the schedule, then selecting the group with your friend that you want to join, or finding your friend on your Friends list and selecting "Join".
• Private Groups - Create a group for just you and your friends - click "Private" button on the group leaderboard. Choose “Create” and then share your ID with your friends.
• Chat - send messages to friends, individuals in your public or private group, or everyone in your group!

Winning the Game

You are competing in a small group of players as well as against everyone else playing - you can see how you're doing against each of these in real time by selecting the Group or Global leaderboards. Knowing your golf and answering more questions correctly is the only way to win!

Can’t Register to Play?

If you are unable to complete the registration, your flash security settings may be preventing content to be stored on your computer.

To change your flash security settings, follow these 5 steps:

Step 1: Visit Adobe’s Global Flash Player Settings Panel http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager03.html

Step 2: Check your “Global Storage Settings” and verify that you are allowing 3rd party content to store flash content to be stored on your computer in addition to allowing storing common flash content to minimize downloading.

Step 3: Allow for a minimum of 100 KB of information to be stored (move the slider).

Step 4: Select the Website Privacy Settings tab. Make sure that your limit for the following web site URL’s are not set to 0.

a. http://playlive.nbcsports.com.edgesuite.net/

b. http://playlive.nbcsports.com.edgesuite.net/usga/index.html

c. www.airplay.com

Step 5: Once you verify these settings, select “Play Live” and launch the game again.

If you still get an error, then you may be encountering a Corporate Firewall or Proxy Server security limitation. AirPlay recommends trying the game from home to play along live.

Having Trouble Getting Into the Game?

If the game is locking up when the schedule is downloading, your computer may be behind a firewall that prohibits the network connections required to play.

In order to play, the flash game player needs to open a network connection to our servers. If you are unable to complete the registration or you are locking up at a point when the schedule is downloading, this could occur if you are trying to connect through your company’s firewall or if your flash security settings are not set to allow access.

AirPlay occasionally will need to store information, such as your high score or other game specific content. Note: AirPlay does not store any other content other than what is required to run the game (i.e., spyware). In the Global Storage Settings panel, you can control how much disk space in general websites can use to store information, or you can prohibit websites or games from storing any information at all. (If you prohibit websites and/or games from storing information, the website or game might or might not function as intended.)

Additionally, if you are located behind a firewall or proxy server, you may not be able to play. The firewall/proxy is preventing the application from connecting with the servers. This is typically what happens if you try to play from work.
