Since 1981, Mr. Lockton has continuously been involved in the development of real-time mobile information and entertainment services. His inventions, the QuoTrek™, and Signal™ were attributed by George Gilder to be the first services ever to utilize what is now called "push" technology.

From 1981 through 1985, as founder and CEO of Data Broadcasting, Inc. (now Interactive Data Corp (IDC) he successfully launched the first, and still the only, mobile, real-time financial quotation service, which generated over $1.3 billion in service revenues during the services lifetime. In 1987 Lockton turned his focus to the application of the core technology to larger consumer markets. He formed Interactive Network, Inc. to leverage his patent covering the use of a distributed "push" communications architecture for an entertainment application - playing along with live TV programming for prizes. Interactive Network, backed by NBC, Cablevision Systems, TCI, AC Nielsen, Gannett, Sprint, and Motorola, successfully pioneered a mobile gaming platform and television-related real-time interactive game service from 1989 through 1995. Upon the expiration of his interactive TV patents, Lockton founded AirPlay Network, Inc., in May 2004.
